Vanessa Lopez is an artist and educator who has been teaching young children at the Visual Arts Center of New Jersey for over twenty years. She previously served as Director of the Studio School and continues to teach classes in painting, sculpture, clay, and mixed media. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Art History from Kean University and an Associate’s degree in Early Childhood Education from Middlesex County College. Working with children has deeply influenced both her teaching and her own creative practice.
Her work often focuses on transforming found objects into sculpture. She enjoys reimagining discarded materials and giving them a new purpose, allowing everyday objects to become part of something imaginative and unexpected.
Vanessa works with children to build miniature furniture and environments that take on many forms—from superhero headquarters and museums to imaginative playlands. These collaborative projects celebrate creativity, storytelling, and the idea that materials can always have a second life.
