In this session, we will cover the basics of throwing off the hump and how it differs from throwing off of the wheel head. We will go through how to approach taller or wider forms like plates and discuss the workflow of incorporating throwing and trimming off the hump into your practice. In addition, we will make custom wire tools and work out the nuances of how to adjust your body to make centering easier. Lastly, I will be guiding students through the steps of my functional work which involves throwing, altering, trimming, rethrowing, and handbuilding off the hump and some last minute sculpting. The end goal of the class will be to tweak our thoughts about using the wheel as a tool rather than a means to an end. Wheel throwing experience is helpful in this class.
