Stitch Resist with Indigo Dyeing!
Oct. 17th and 24th
Two Time Options:
9:00-11:30am or 6:30-9:00pm
$125 workshop…materials included ($50)
Join us The Maker’s Circle studio located at the Willow School as we explore the ancient art of Shibori stitch resist dyeing. Stitches are used to create a pattern which acts as a resist so that the indigo can’t penetrate those areas of the fabric. … This workshop will run over two consecutive Tuesdays. On day 1, you will stitch your designs into the fabric with master stitcher, Jackie Pankuck and on day 2, we all head to expert natural dyer, Kerstin Katko’s indigo studio in Long Valley to learn about making and maintaining an indigo vat. And then the fun part…we will dip our stitched creations to complete one of kind works of wearable (and usable) art.
Each student will be working with both a Madewell Whisper Cotton Tee and a set of cotton flour sack tea towels.
Instructors: Stitcher, Jackie Pankuck and Indigo dyer, Kerstin Katko
