This series will cover skills needed by the watercolor artist to manage the paint better so you can enjoy your painting time. \nThis 6 week look at fundamentals includes: \n\nPigment strength – when\, where and how is a critically important in watercolor. Without this knowledge your paintings will look anemic and flat.\nColor Mixing – how to get the color you want\, fast.\nEdges – edge control is all about timing and pigment strength. Artist and instructor Andrea Gianchiglia leads this 6-week series designed to build real\, foundational painting skills from the ground up. \nEach session focuses on core techniques: color mixing\, light and shadow\, composition\, brushwork\, and understanding your materials. You’ll work from photographs — either Andrea’s curated selection or images from your own collection — so your work stays personal and meaningful. Every week includes a live demo tackling a specific challenge\, whether that’s subject matter\, technique\, or a particular painting element. You can use the demo as a direct exercise or as a reference while continuing your own project — the pace is yours to set. \nThis is an opportunity to study with an instructor experienced in oil painting in an intimate\, small-group setting. The instructor will go over different types of palettes in class. If you’d like\, you can wait until the first class to decide which type you prefer (use a paper palette pad in the meantime). A large wooden palette or a piece of clear glass also works great. \nPalette box — Used to store your wet palette after class and between painting sessions. Available at Michaels — it is a Tupperware-like box with a blue top and white bottom. \nTurpenoid (small container) \nLiquin by Winsor & Newton — Find this in the “mediums” section. \nBrushes — A variety of sizes recommended. Synthetic brushes are suggested for beginners. Brush variety packs with assorted sizes are available in the brush section. \nPalette knife — Metal is preferred over plastic. \nSurface to paint on — The instructor will demonstrate various surfaces in class. To start\, a canvas board or stretched canvas is recommended. This series is designed for students who have experience with watercolor\, who feel comfortable with the medium and who want to improve their exposure to more advanced skills and subject matter. \nStudents in this class will attempt more complicated photo references\, discuss different ways to approach them and each student will work to create their own version of subject. \nAll materials will be provided\, \n  \nCancellation Policy: \nAny student canceling more than 1 week before the start of class will be refunded. Please note\, however\, that we incur a small transaction fee for all online signups. That  amount will be subtracted from your refund. \nFor students wanting to cancel within 1 week of a class\, please be aware that your tuition is non refundable. You can pass your spot on to a friend however\, Just let us know in advance.
