DESCRIPTION:FLOWER PAINTING MARATHON WORKSHOP:\nEXPLORING ELEMENTS OF COMPOSITION \n\nInspired by the glorious abundance of flowers in bloom\, we will jump right in to painting with Christine! Our focus will be on responding directly to nature and producing a quantity of work.\n\nMornings will be dedicated to producing several experimental starts to paintings with the support of individual instruction and collegial encouragement\, including a cheering team.\n\nWe will break for lunch and come back at 1pm for lecture and demonstration focused on responding directly from nature\, large abstract decisions\, and color harmony. Demonstrations will be in oil though you are welcome to work in any painting medium. All levels welcome.\n\nWe will be teaming up with local flower farmers including Bewitching Blooms in Far Hills\, NJ. It will be a riot of gorgeous flowers!!!\n\nIt will be very fun!\n\n\n\nPlease come fully prepared to work with plenty of surfaces. Ware Memorial Scholarship for European Travel.  While Artist-in-Residence at the Fleisher Art Memorial from 1997 to 2002\, she began teaching and studied at the Barnes Foundation.  In 2003 she moved to Brooklyn NY\, where she earned a Master’s Degree in Fine Arts at Brooklyn College.  In November 2023\, Christine did an Artist Residency at Scuola Internazionale di Grafica in Venice\, Italy. With the exception of 2020 when she sheltered-in-place in Old San Juan\, Puerto Rico\, Christine lives and works in Brooklyn throughout the year and spends summers painting in Maine.\nDownloadable PDF available of her accomplishments and awards \n\n\nLodging:\nIf you need lodging information\, there are a number of options within 10-15 minutes of the studio. This 8-week hand building class with instructor Laurie Scupp covers the core techniques of clay work without the wheel: pinch pots\, coil building\, and slab construction. \nYou’ll move through each method with guidance\, building functional pieces like mugs\, bowls\, and plates\, while also having room to experiment with more sculptural and abstract forms. Whether you’re brand new to ceramics or looking for a focused space to continue your own ceramic practice\, this class supports both. The small class size — just 8 students — means Laurie is right there with you\, every step of the way. \nClay and all firing are included. DESCRIPTION:FLOWER PAINTING MARATHON WORKSHOP:\nEXPLORING ELEMENTS OF COMPOSITION \n\nInspired by the glorious abundance of flowers in bloom\, we will jump right in to painting with Christine! Our focus will be on responding directly to nature and producing a quantity of work.\n\nMornings will be dedicated to producing several experimental starts to paintings with the support of individual instruction and collegial encouragement\, including a cheering team.\n\nWe will break for lunch and come back at 1pm for lecture and demonstration focused on responding directly from nature\, large abstract decisions\, and color harmony. Demonstrations will be in oil though you are welcome to work in any painting medium. All levels welcome.\n\nWe will be teaming up with local flower farmers including Bewitching Blooms in Far Hills\, NJ. It will be a riot of gorgeous flowers!!!\n\nIt will be very fun!\n\n\n\nPlease come fully prepared to work with plenty of surfaces. Materials list for oil painting is available.\n\nJune 1-4 (Monday-Thursday) Enrollment limited to 12.\n9AM- 3 PM\n$850\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n        \n\n\n\nMore about Christine:\n\nCheck out Christine’s amazing work on her website here.\n\n\nA native of Poughkeepsie NY\, Christine received an A.B. in  English from Bryn Mawr College in 1991.  She then moved to downtown Philadelphia to earn a Certificate in Painting and Printmaking from the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts.  There she was awarded a Louis S. Ware Memorial Scholarship for European Travel.  While Artist-in-Residence at the Fleisher Art Memorial from 1997 to 2002\, she began teaching and studied at the Barnes Foundation.  In 2003 she moved to Brooklyn NY\, where she earned a Master’s Degree in Fine Arts at Brooklyn College.  In November 2023\, Christine did an Artist Residency at Scuola Internazionale di Grafica in Venice\, Italy. With the exception of 2020 when she sheltered-in-place in Old San Juan\, Puerto Rico\, Christine lives and works in Brooklyn throughout the year and spends summers painting in Maine.\nDownloadable PDF available of her accomplishments and awards \n\n\nLodging:\nIf you need lodging information\, there are a number of options within 10-15 minutes of the studio. Taught by veteran potter and sgraffito expert\, Susan Palmer\, this small-group class is open to true beginners and experienced throwers alike. \nOver eight sessions\, you’ll work through the fundamentals of throwing on the pottery wheel: centering\, opening\, pulling\, and shaping. You’ll create bowls\, cups\, vases\, and plates — functional pieces built with proper technique from the start. Please note\, however\, that we incur a small transaction fee for all online signups. This series will cover skills needed by the watercolor artist to manage the paint better so you can enjoy your painting time. \nThis 6 week look at fundamentals includes: \n\nPigment strength – when\, where and how is a critically important in watercolor. Without this knowledge your paintings will look anemic and flat.\nColor Mixing – how to get the color you want\, fast.\nEdges – edge control is all about timing and pigment strength. Without this skill you paintings will be either washed out or too chaotic.\nDeconstructing a scene for the best watercolor outcome. This 8-week hand building class with instructor Laurie Scupp covers the core techniques of clay work without the wheel: pinch pots\, coil building\, and slab construction. \nYou’ll move through each method with guidance\, building functional pieces like mugs\, bowls\, and plates\, while also having room to experiment with more sculptural and abstract forms. Whether you’re brand new to ceramics or looking for a focused space to continue your own ceramic practice\, this class supports both. The small class size — just 8 students — means Laurie is right there with you\, every step of the way. \nClay and all firing are included.
