SUMMARY:Graphite & Watercolor Workshop with Jane Ramsey: Sun. May 17
DESCRIPTION:Graphite & Watercolor Workshop\nSunday\, May 17 \n10 – 4pm \nSpend a day exploring the combination of graphite and watercolor on paper with artist Jane Ramsey. \nMany watercolorists begin with a light pencil drawing to indicate basic shapes of a painting\, only to cover it up with paint. In this case\, we’ll explore: \n\nWhat if the drawing became as essential as the paint?\nHow can the drawing have more emphasis and presence?\nWhat role can color play in combination with the graphite elements?\n\nThese are all the things we’ll be finding out together! \n \nJane will introduce the variety of drawing tools – pencils\, sticks\, liquid graphite and even powdered graphite. Then she’ll show how they can integrate with the watercolor medium. We will even explore going back to add additional drawing and mark making onto the painted areas. \nWe will focus on all the possibilities! This workshop is more about your chance to experience and play with this medium and less about creating a finished piece. (Although you might be surprised with the outcome and consider them “finished”!) \nAll materials will be supplied for this workshop. Just come with 3-6 photo images for inspiration to work from. \nThe workshop will begin with a demo and discussion of materials and techniques. Jane will share some examples of her experimentation in the studio. We’ll talk about papers and how that contributes to the results. \nThen we’ll break into working on our own and Jane will be available for questions and help. \nPack a lunch and beverage so you can take a break when you want. \nWe’ll wrap up the day by gathering around to see everyone’s efforts and share in the joy of making art! \nTo learn more about Jane and see her artwork visit www.\,janeramsey.com. \n

SUMMARY:Drawing Outside at Willowood with artist Jane Ramsey\, July (4 wks)
DESCRIPTION:New to plein air? This is for you. \nChallenged when you have tried plein air? This is for you\, too!\nLove working en plein air? Join us!\nWednesdays\, 10 am – 1 pm (3 hour) \n4 sessions\, July 8\, 15\, 22\, 29 \nThese three-hour sessions will be spent outdoors at Willowwood Aboretum finding inspiration from working en plein air. (in case of rain\, we’ll move indoors to the studio at Makers)\nThese sessions are designed to emphasize the value of working from direct observation and the joy I find sketching outdoors. I want to create a plein air experience that is enjoyable\, easy with a set-up that works best for you! \nWe will explore sketching to capture overall views where we’ll consider composition\, spatial arrangement and editing to simplify. The incredible diversity of trees found on the grounds will be perfect for doing smaller focused studies exploring shape and definition. This will be fun! \nThe “Color Notes” part is a term I use for adding color information to all or just parts of my drawings. I’ll even add small notes of information that I want to remember\, should I choose to work on it further in the studio. When used together with your photo references\, they inform and guide for creating a larger finished painting. \nOr\, these sketches can just be kept as they are. Moments of visual memories. Valuable exercises in drawing from life. \n  \nArt set-up for drawing/painting: \n\nWork in a sketchbook or paper attached to a small drawing board on your lap.\nYou can also bring your plein air easel set up. Either works.\n\nArt materials to bring: \n\nDrawing materials – pencils\, erasers\, blending stumps. Graphite and/or charcoal.\nFor adding color you can bring colored pencils and/or pastels.\nWatercolor is my chosen medium\, but you can work in something else if you prefer.\nThere are no rules on the materials used.\n\nOther things to bring: \n\nBring an outdoor chair to sit if you prefer. (There are some benches at the park.)\nPack bottled water\, snacks for when you need them.\nBring bug spray and dress appropriately for outdoors.\nHats with a wide brim are really helpful.\n\nI’ll have my favorite art supplies with me that you can try out. I always have Blackwing pencils and other supplies available individually for purchase. \n

Please bring two — one for the Liquin and one for the Turpenoid. \n“The Masters” brush cleaner & preserver — a small tub of brush cleaner in a beige-colored container. \nAny questions? Email Andrea at andrea@agillustration.com. \nCancellation Policy\nStudents cancelling at least one week prior to the start of class will receive a full refund. Within one week of the start date\, tuition is non-refundable\, as we must cover materials and instructor costs. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column]\n\n\n	\n \n \n \n\n	\n	\n\n \n \n Andrea Gianchiglia\n \n\n \n \n [vc_row][vc_column width=”1/4″] \n\n\n\n[/vc_column][vc_column width=”3/4″][vc_column_text css=””] \nAndrea Gianchiglia is a professional fine artist and instructor with over 20 years of teaching experience. SUMMARY:The Power of Pastels with Andrea Gianchiglia— July–August 2026
DESCRIPTION:[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text css=””]\nAbout the Class\nThis pastels class will offer exposure to one of the most expressive mediums in an artist’s toolkit. This 6-week series with Andrea Gianchiglia is your chance to really dig into what they can do. Each week builds on the last\, with Andrea guiding you through a fresh challenge designed to push your skills forward. \nDiscussions and demos cover the full range of what makes pastel work sing: color theory\, proportion\, drawing fundamentals\, texture\, and layering. Andrea walks through each concept step by step\, so whether you’re relatively new to pastels or coming in with some experience\, you’ll leave every session with something concrete to show for it — and something new to think about. \nThis pastels class is a rare opportunity to spend six weeks in focused study with an experience instructor\, in the kind of small\, serious-but-relaxed class environment that actually lets you grow. Spots fill fast. \nTuesdays\, July 14 – August 18 | 1pm–3:30pm | 6 sessions | All levels welcome \nMaterials\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nA great starter set is Prismacolor NuPastels. The minimum recommended set is 36 count. Surfaces are important for pastels. SUMMARY:Master Watercolor Workshop with Alvaro Castagnet - September 18-20
DESCRIPTION:[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]\nUnderstanding The Four PIllars: \nWe are thrilled to welcome internationally acclaimed\, master watercolor painter\, Alvaro Castagnet to A Maker’s Circle this September. Widely regarded as one of the world’s leading watercolor artists\, Alvaro is known for his bold\, passionate\, and deeply expressive approach to painting. His workshops are immersive\, inspiring\, and—above all—fun. \nThis multi-day workshop offers students a rare opportunity to learn directly from Alvaro as he shares not only how he paints\, but why a painting works. \n                 \nThis workshop is an intense 3 days of inspiration\, hard work and productive learning…6 Hours of class each day – a break for lunch. \nAlvaro begins with philosophical introduction and then follows by a simple “one go” demonstration \nThe demo will focus on bold composition with understanding of the 4 Pillars. \nYou will learn how to make quick decisions and simplify your subject to achieve the most impact. We will discuss Color relationships\, tonal range\, forms & shapes and edges. \nParticipants will then paint until we break for lunch \nAlvaro will assist and advise on works in progress. \nParticipants are asked to start a second painting for the afternoon session\, after Alvaro’s 2nd.demonstration.  Alvaro will supervise participants until the end of each day. \nEvery participant will go home not only feeling great with their achievement\,  realizing how much they have learned after having so much fun\, and with a clear understanding of the strength and weakness of their paintings. \nWhat to Expect\nAlvaro will begin with an introduction to watercolor that explores the philosophical side of painting—what truly makes a painting come alive. From there\, the workshop unfolds organically\, guided by demonstrations\, discussion\, and hands-on practice. \nOver the course of the workshop\, Alvaro will cover essential watercolor concepts\, including: \n\nWet-on-wet technique\nWet-on-dry technique\nLost and found edges\nColor mixing and blending\nUnderstanding and using strong value ranges\n\nStudents will watch Alvaro complete both simple\, one-go demonstrations and more complex paintings\, gaining insight into his decision-making process at every stage. \nOver 6 hours of painting each day\, Alvaro will spend generous time walking among the students\, in our two adjacent light filled studio rooms\, offering individualized\, thoughtful\, and encouraging guidance to help each painter strengthen their work and make the most of every painting opportunity. \nImportant: Painting will take place primarily in the studio; however\, weather permitting\, Álvaro may lead sessions outdoors for plein air painting. Participants should therefore be prepared to paint both indoors and outdoors. \nA Note on Alvaro’s Teaching Style\nThis outline is offered as a general guide only. Alvaro is a true free spirit and does not follow a rigid formula. His teaching responds to the energy of the group\, the paintings in front of him\, and the moment itself—making each workshop a unique and memorable experience. \n\nWhat You’ll Leave With\nParticipants consistently leave Alvaro’s workshops feeling energized\, confident\, and inspired. You can expect to go home with: \n\nA deeper understanding of watercolor\nClear insight into the strengths and weaknesses of your work\nNew tools to approach future paintings with confidence\nAnd the satisfaction of having learned a tremendous amount while having a lot of fun\n\nAlvaro Castagnet workshops are highly sought-after and beloved by painters at all levels. We are honored to host him and look forward to an unforgettable experience this September at A Maker’s Circle. \n  \nCancelation Policy: refunds will be given as follows: \n\n4 weeks before – full refund\n3 weeks before – 50% refund\n2 weeks before – non-refundable\n\n  \nALVARO’S LIST OF MATERIALS \nPAINTS: \n\n\n\n◻   Lunar Black \n◻   Cobalt Blue \n◻   Sepia \n◻   Hansa Yellow Deep \n◻   Burnt Sienna Light \n◻   Yellow Ochre \n◻   Pyrrol Red \n◻   Neutral Tint \n◻   Viridian \n◻   Lavender (DS or Holbein) \n◻   Alvaro’s Caliente Grey (DS)* \n◻   Alvaro’s Fresco Grey (DS)* \n*Daniel Smith\n\n  \nSUGGESTED PAINTS  (not indispensable) \n  \n◻   Titanium White \n◻   Jaune Brilliant #1 \n◻   Pyrrol Orange (Daniel Smith) \n◻   Cobalt Teal Blue or Green Turquoise Light \n◻   Lunar Blue\n\n\n\nBRUSHES: \nPlease bring the best you can afford. \n\nPreferable\, round big\, MOP shape and pointed brushes sable or squirrel\nsuggested brushes\n#10\, 6\, 4\, 2\, 0\, 00\, 000\, 5/00 and 10/00) – 1 Flat brush at least  2 ” wide\n1 rigger or needle point for fine details and lines (like Alvaro’s #8\, #10\, #6 or #4)\nSmall synthetic brushes # 4\, 5\, 6 (for fine detail work)\n\nPAPER: \nFor workshops\, it is best to use from 1/4 to 1/2 sheet size\, but of course\, you can paint\, in any size you feel comfortable.  Alvaro will mostly demonstrate in 1/2 sheets. \n\nIt is critical to use quality watercolor paper that is 100% cotton.
