Artist and instructor Andrea Gianchiglia leads this 6-week series designed to build real\, foundational painting skills from the ground up. \nEach session focuses on core techniques: color mixing\, light and shadow\, composition\, brushwork\, and understanding your materials. You’ll work from photographs — either Andrea’s curated selection or images from your own collection — so your work stays personal and meaningful. Every week includes a live demo tackling a specific challenge\, whether that’s subject matter\, technique\, or a particular painting element. You can use the demo as a direct exercise or as a reference while continuing your own project — the pace is yours to set. \nThis is an opportunity to study with an instructor experienced in oil painting in an intimate\, small-group setting. Whether you’re picking up a brush for the first time or looking to sharpen skills you already have\, Andrea meets you where you are… \nTuesdays\, July 14 – August 18 | 10am–12:30pm | 6 sessions | All levels welcome \nMaterials\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nOil paint colors — Titanium White\, Viridian\, Burnt Sienna\, Yellow Ochre\, Sap Green\, Alizarin Crimson\, Phthalo Blue\, Cadmium Yellow\, Ultramarine Blue\, Cadmium Red \nOptional: Portland Warm Grey and Portland Cool Grey (made by Gamblin)\, Ice Blue (Richeson Shiva Series)\, Kings Blue by Michael Harding \nThere are many brands to choose from. The instructor recommends Winsor & Newton or Grumbacher. Winsor & Newton has two quality grades: Professional Artist and student grade. The student grade is called Winton. The instructor recommends the Artist grade — the quality is better\, though the price is slightly higher. \nAcrylic paint — one tube of Yellow Ochre \nPalette (used for mixing paint). The instructor will go over different types of palettes in class. If you’d like\, you can wait until the first class to decide which type you prefer (use a paper palette pad in the meantime). A large wooden palette or a piece of clear glass also works great. \nPalette box — Used to store your wet palette after class and between painting sessions. Available at Michaels — it is a Tupperware-like box with a blue top and white bottom. \nTurpenoid (small container) \nLiquin by Winsor & Newton — Find this in the “mediums” section. \nBrushes — A variety of sizes recommended. Synthetic brushes are suggested for beginners. Brush variety packs with assorted sizes are available in the brush section. \nPalette knife — Metal is preferred over plastic. \nSurface to paint on — The instructor will demonstrate various surfaces in class. To start\, a canvas board or stretched canvas is recommended. Both parents played a vital role in Jane’s growth as an artist by encouraging Jane to observe and draw to her heart’s content. \nEndless hours sketching and drawing made up a huge part of Jane’s childhood. The path towards art school was always in sight. Jane studied at Cornish College of the Arts in Seattle\, Washington graduating with a BFA in design with an emphasis in illustration. \nJane has been published in “100 Plein Air Painters of the Mid Atlantic\,” by Gary Pendleton\, Schiffer Publishing. She is a published illustrator of children’s books including “Madam President – Five Women Who Paved the Way\,” by Nichola Gutgold that highlights five women who ran for the presidency. \nJane’s watercolor and graphite works on paper have earned recognition including multiple awards at Phillips Mill Annual Juried Art Show (a long-standing historic art show in Bucks County). In 2025\, Jane was a finalist in the international Best of Drawing Competition hosted by the publisher of Artists Magazine. \nJane owns Simons Fine Art Framing in Dublin\, PA where she maintains a working studio and fine art gallery featuring her work. Jane also offers private instruction in watercolor painting and drawing. SUMMARY:Monotype Workshop With Jane Ramsey\, Sunday\, Aug. 16
DESCRIPTION:Monotype Workshop (Session 1 of 2) \n10-4pm \nSunday\, August 16 \n$195. \nExplore the mark-making possibilities of the monotype printmaking process! \nThe tools are simple and easy to use. We’ll begin by inking our acrylic plates and then\, using a variety of different items (rags\, makeup sponges\, spatulas\, popsicle sticks\, etc.) we will remove the ink to reveal our “whites”.  There’s even more to explore with adding texture by using sponges\, nylon scrubbies\, and more to press into the inked plate. \nYou can even go back into the finished monotype and add more toning or marks using a variety of tools such as litho sticks\, charcoal pencils and graphite. (SEE SESSION 2 to explore this with your prints made in this workshop.) \nMonotype printing is an experience in “letting go”!  Even as you plan and create there will always be unexpected marks that happen. This leads to all kinds of improvisation. \nThis technique is open to all kinds of interpretation. From abstraction to realism\, the possibilities are endless! \nI will be doing a demo of the process and showing you how I find inspiration from my sketchbooks\, translating them to monotypes. Then we’ll begin making our own monotypes. In addition to black ink\, this workshop will be expanded into using color inks for gradated effects! It will be exciting! \nAll art supplies are included. \nWhat to bring: \n\nThe process can be a little messy so wear appropriate clothes and/or an apron. If you are wearing long sleeves\, make sure you can push them up out of the way. Nothing dangly on your wrists\, they get in the way.\nBring some photos (either printed out or on your phone) for inspiration. Or some sketches or drawings that you find inspiring to work from. The subjects should be simple. For instance\, a singular tree\, flower\, animal\, etc.\nPack a lunch/snacks and beverage as we’ll take a break during the day.\n\n  \nJane will hold an optional “day 2” if you would like to take your prints to the next level. Artist and instructor Andrea Gianchiglia leads this 6-week series designed to build real\, foundational painting skills from the ground up. \nEach session focuses on core techniques: color mixing\, light and shadow\, composition\, brushwork\, and understanding your materials. You’ll work from photographs — either Andrea’s curated selection or images from your own collection — so your work stays personal and meaningful. Every week includes a live demo tackling a specific challenge\, whether that’s subject matter\, technique\, or a particular painting element. You can use the demo as a direct exercise or as a reference while continuing your own project — the pace is yours to set. \nThis is an opportunity to study with an instructor experienced in oil painting in an intimate\, small-group setting. Whether you’re picking up a brush for the first time or looking to sharpen skills you already have\, Andrea meets you where you are… \nTuesdays\, July 14 – August 18 | 10am–12:30pm | 6 sessions | All levels welcome \nMaterials\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nOil paint colors — Titanium White\, Viridian\, Burnt Sienna\, Yellow Ochre\, Sap Green\, Alizarin Crimson\, Phthalo Blue\, Cadmium Yellow\, Ultramarine Blue\, Cadmium Red \nOptional: Portland Warm Grey and Portland Cool Grey (made by Gamblin)\, Ice Blue (Richeson Shiva Series)\, Kings Blue by Michael Harding \nThere are many brands to choose from. The instructor recommends Winsor & Newton or Grumbacher. Winsor & Newton has two quality grades: Professional Artist and student grade. The student grade is called Winton. The instructor recommends the Artist grade — the quality is better\, though the price is slightly higher. \nAcrylic paint — one tube of Yellow Ochre \nPalette (used for mixing paint). The instructor will go over different types of palettes in class. If you’d like\, you can wait until the first class to decide which type you prefer (use a paper palette pad in the meantime). A large wooden palette or a piece of clear glass also works great. \nPalette box — Used to store your wet palette after class and between painting sessions. Available at Michaels — it is a Tupperware-like box with a blue top and white bottom. \nTurpenoid (small container) \nLiquin by Winsor & Newton — Find this in the “mediums” section. \nBrushes — A variety of sizes recommended. Synthetic brushes are suggested for beginners. Brush variety packs with assorted sizes are available in the brush section. \nPalette knife — Metal is preferred over plastic. \nSurface to paint on — The instructor will demonstrate various surfaces in class. To start\, a canvas board or stretched canvas is recommended. Size is up to the student; the instructor suggests 11″ x 14″ to 16″ x 20″. \nSketchbook and sketching supplies — pencils\, charcoal\, erasers\, etc. \nSmall containers for painting medium — Art stores sell small metal cups that attach to your palette; Mason jars work great as well. Both parents played a vital role in Jane’s growth as an artist by encouraging Jane to observe and draw to her heart’s content. \nEndless hours sketching and drawing made up a huge part of Jane’s childhood. The path towards art school was always in sight. Jane studied at Cornish College of the Arts in Seattle\, Washington graduating with a BFA in design with an emphasis in illustration. \nJane has been published in “100 Plein Air Painters of the Mid Atlantic\,” by Gary Pendleton\, Schiffer Publishing. She is a published illustrator of children’s books including “Madam President – Five Women Who Paved the Way\,” by Nichola Gutgold that highlights five women who ran for the presidency. \nJane’s watercolor and graphite works on paper have earned recognition including multiple awards at Phillips Mill Annual Juried Art Show (a long-standing historic art show in Bucks County). In 2025\, Jane was a finalist in the international Best of Drawing Competition hosted by the publisher of Artists Magazine. \nJane owns Simons Fine Art Framing in Dublin\, PA where she maintains a working studio and fine art gallery featuring her work. Jane also offers private instruction in watercolor painting and drawing. Over the years\, she has been an adjunct faculty member at several colleges teaching graphic design\, drawing and illustration. \nJane has been active in regional arts organizations including serving on the board of the Arts & Cultural Council of Bucks County and New Hope Art League. We’ll explore the magic of turning flowers into natural color and create something beautiful to take home — no experience needed\, just a little curiosity. Come enjoy a creative evening surrounded by flowers\, good company\, and a little bit of farm-grown magic. \n🌿 What You’ll Learn  \nDuring this workshop\, Blair will take you through the entire natural dyeing process from growing the plants\, making the dye bath\, mordanting\, dyeing\, and design.
