SUMMARY:The Power of Pastels 8 Week Series with Andrea Gianchiglia: Fall 2025 (SOLD OUT)
DESCRIPTION:[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text css=””]Pastel Fridays are back starting September 26 and running through Nov. 21. 8 weeks  (skip 10/14) \nDelve deeper into the power of pastels each week with a teacher challenge.  Andrea will guide you through step by step demonstrations. Discussions will include color theory\, proportion\, drawing\, texture and more. \nAll levels are welcome. \nStudents are required to bring their own supplies. \n\n\nMaterials\nThe more pastels the better! \nA great starter set is Prismacolor Nupastels. The minimum set recommended is 36 count.\nSurfaces are important for pastels. Pastelmat by Clairfontaine is recommended. (A variety pack in several colors in 9 x 12 size is encouraged) \nOther great pastel brands that are optional: Unison\, Terry Ludwig\, Sennelier. \n\n\n\nAbout the Instructor\n\n\n\nAndrea Gianchiglia\nBFA\, University of Hartford Art School\, major in illustration\, minor in art history. Exhibitions: Many solo\, group and juried shows at various galleries and museums in the tri-state area. Awards: has won awards for her specialty\, animal portraiture. Her work is in private collections throughtout the country and is available for commissions. A member of Society of Animal Artists\, Salmagundi Club\, and the Catherine Lorillard Wolfe art group. DESCRIPTION:Learn the basics of hand building pottery in this class. Or get support to further your ceramic practice. Classes are 9/15\, 22\, 29\, 10/6\, 13\, 20\, 27\, 11/3.   Throughout the class\, you’ll be guided through various clay handbuilding techniques such as pinch pots\, coil building\, and slab construction. You’ll create functional ceramic pieces like mugs\, bowls\, and plates\, while also experimenting with abstract forms and textures.  Surface design techniques such as sgraffito will also be covered. \n1 25 lb. of white clay included and all firing.

This series will cover many of the critical skills needed by the watercolor artist to manage the paint better so you can enjoy your painting time. \nSeries focus includes: \n\nColor Mixing – how to get the color you want\, fast.\nPigment to water ratio. Pigment strength is a critically important skill in watercolor. Without this knowledge your paintings will look anemic and flat.\nBrush control- Find out what your brushes can do! You don’t need a ton of brushes to get the effect you desire. A few will do nicely.\nDeconstructing a scene for the best watercolor outcome.\nSpecial skills:\n\npainting figures in watercolor scenes- the secret…less is more!\npainting trees \, bushes and foliage.\nAdding cars and other “stuff” to give a scene energy\, texture and life.\n\n\nPulling it all together\, the last class we will paint a scene bringing all these skills into focus.\n\nCancelation: Studios cancelling more than 1 week ahead of the series start\, will receive a full refund.
