Join Dan Marshall, award winning watercolor artist and sought after instructor and mentor for this 3-day workshop (the afternoon of Oct. 10 – the morning of Oct. 13) in picturesque northern New Jersey at Tamerlaine Farm Sanctuary. Dan is a master painter of farms and landscapes and there will be no shortages of beautiful vistas, gorgeous barns and out buildings.  An incredible array of rescued farm animals are also available for students to paint including cows, goats, sheep, donkeys, pigs and so much more. These are magical farm animals who have found a loving and compassionate home at this sanctuary.

We will arrive at Tamerlaine on Thursday, October 10 mid morning to settle in and will spend the afternoon painting. Each day will be spent painting from 9am-5pm with a break for lunch on the farm.  Dan typically does at least two demos per day with one in the morning and one in the afternoon. We will paint Sunday morning and break at noon to pack up and head home.

If you haven’t taken a Dan Marshall workshop, you won’t be dissappointed. He is an incredible teacher providing indepth knowledge about design, expression and emotion as well as a wealth of practical painting information for the plein air painter. His workshops are full of valuable painting tips and lots of laughs–you are guaranteed to have a great time.

Accommodations:

Painters will have the option of staying at Tamerlaine in their beautifully restored, historic farmhouse or staying nearby in a hotel (hotel information can be provided to you upon request).

For those of you choosing to stay at the farmhouse, accommodation options include a room and private bath or a room and shared bath. Once you sign up for the workshop, you can book your accommodation in the farmhouse by going to our website for available options.

Important note: if you decide to stay off site, or if the farmhouse rooms book up, you will be responsible for booking your own stay at a nearby hotel/motel. We can help you with that search.

Food at Tamerlaine:

In support of Tamerlaine’s compassionate mission, we will be avoiding animal food products while on the property.

For those of us staying at the Farmhouse, we will be enjoying delicious vegan food throughout the weekend. All meals will be provided for you at an additional charge of $300 for 3 meals over three days.

For those of you staying offsite, you will be provided a vegan lunch and snack at an additional cost of $25//day. You can choose to bring your own lunch but it must be vegan.  Your breakfasts and dinners will be at your convenience.

All food costs will be settled up at the end of the workshop.

More about Dan:

An avid plein air painter, he is inspired by and paints a great deal of his work on location. This has helped him develop a confident style with an immediacy and freshness infused into each painting.

Dan’s work is greatly influenced by living in the American West. He is inspired by the fading scenes of rustic farms and working ranches, framed in by the beautiful landscapes Colorado and New Mexico have to offer. Growing up on the East Coast and having previously lived in California, his work also retains a strong connection to coastal and nautical life. Regardless of the subject, his unique view of the Americana aesthetic is unmistakable.

An award winning professional artist and leading name in the tattoo industry since 1995, Dan redirected the majority of his creative energy to fine art painting in watercolor since 2013. He’s been featured in Watercolor Artist Magazine, Southwest Art Magazine, American Art Collector and Plein Air Magazine. He is also a regular contributor, writing articles about plein air painting, experiences and watercolor instruction.

Daniel is represented by the Huse Skelly Gallery in Balboa Island, CA and Scarlowe’s Gallery in Casper, WY. He also has had an exhibition of his work in Casper’s Nicolaysan Art Museum.

Daniel Marshall is currently based in Denver, Colorado. He can often be found plein air painting from the farms of the plains, to the ranches of the foothills and the peaks of the Rockies.

More about Tamerlaine Farm Sanctuary

It’s rare to find such a scenic place that is also historic, one-of-a-kind, and magical.  This is a sanctuary for farmed animals and a preserve for native wildlife. Built in 1774 this historic farm, comprises 336 acres of pristine and preserved farmland equipped with spacious barns, stables, fenced in pastures, hay fields and two lakes. A charming colonial-era home with built in pool overlooks the entire site. Included in your stay is a private tour of the sanctuary.

At Tamerlaine Sanctuary, every animal that comes through their gates is greeted with open arms by owners Gabi & Peter and a team of devoted caregivers. They take great care to assess their health needs and ensure they receive the best possible medical attention. At the sanctuary, they provide a loving and permanent home for all of the animals. They are not just guests passing through, but cherished members of the family. When they arrive, they finally find the peace and security they deserve, and they will be cherished and loved for the rest of their days.
