Beginner Watercolor Skill Series – Fall 2024
Dec 4 @ 10:00 am - 12:00 pm
An event every week that begins at 10:00 am on Wednesday, repeating until December 11, 2024
Are you just starting out in watercolor? Have you tried the medium and experienced how frustrating it can be? I know exactly how you feel. Watercolor is a gorgeous medium from which we can create beautiful art, but it’s easy to overwork things and end up with a muddy mess.
Artist, Jackie Pankuck will start at the beginning and walk you through the most critical watercolor skills that will help you enjoy watercolor. The class will practice them together in order to give you much more confidence and ease. Over 8, 2 hour classes, you will focus on 7 different skills that will help you feel more comfortable using watercolor and then pull it all together in week 8. With some focused instruction and group practice, you can begin to create some lovely paintings.
The topics include:
- Mastering the water to pigment ratio and how it relates to the process of painting and why it’s important.
- Getting a handle on timing…when to go in, when to wait and why.
- Recognizing different edges that can be created, why they are important and how to get them.
- Mixing color both in terms of hue and saturation.
- Taking advantage of watercolor’s strengths (and weaknesses) – especially it’s unique ability to use wet into wet techniques.
- Choosing your subject well and planning for painting it.
- How a tonal study can be a huge asset.
- Pulling it all together…we will paint a scene that uses all these skills!
Please note: we are skipping the weeks of 10/16, 10/30, 11/20.
All materials will be provided to you.
Cancellation Policy: Students will be refunded in full up to one week prior to the class date. No refunds will be offered within a week of the beginning of the series. Please understand that we need to manage studio space, purchase materials and cover instructor costs. Late cancelations make all that very difficult. Thank you.
