Learn Sgraffito! Decorate a Clay Bowl with Underglazes and Carving

By definition, sgraffito is a technique of ornamentation in which a surface layer of slip or underglaze is incised on a clay body to reveal a ground of contrasting color.  In this workshop, you will first see a demonstration of the technique.  After painting a pre-made bowl with a colored underglaze, you will then transfer a graphic image of your choice on to the bowl. (You also have the option to bring a clay piece you have made yourself to use in this process).  Surface depth and imagery are easily achieved through this carving process.  Approximate bowl dimensions are 10″ Wx 3″H.   Bowls will receive a clear glaze and will be returned to students 2 weeks after the class.  No clay knowledge needed for this class.
