Jane Ramsey Plein Air Drawing Series at Whittemore Preserve Wed. Sep. 17-Oct. 15 (skip Oct. 1)

New to plein air (creating art out doors)? This is perfect for you! Our set ups will be simple. Drawing in a sketchbook or paper clipped on to a drawing board.
Supplies are also simple. Pencils, paper and erasers.
We’ll explore:
- nature journaling – creating studies of a small detail of a plant or the full plant
- drawing trees in their natural setting — from smaller focused studies of a branch or larger expanded drawings of the overall structure and shape
- drawing techniques and affects working in graphite
- building on the fundamentals — line and tone, shading, edges and values
- expressing the experience of being out in nature – creating drawings with emotion
- working in a sketchbook in nature can be a peaceful and meditative process
We’ll meet at the Whittemore Center on the grounds of the preserve at 7 Rockaway Road, Oldwick, NJ
- Bring a folding chair or stool to work on your lap. Or bring an easel if you are more comfortable working that way.
- Pack bug spray, water and whatever else will make you comfortable.
Bad weather days will be determine by Jane and will be held at A Maker’s Circle studio at 8 Hacklebarney Road in Pottersville. This is 10 minutes from Whittamore. The decision to move indoors will be made the day before class so you have notice.
Cancelation Policy: Students canceling outside 1 week of class will receive a full refund. Cancelations inside of 1 week are non refundable as we need to pay instructors and cover materials costs.
